A 70-year-old man was murdered and at least four others hurt, three of them seriously, in a terror stabbing attack in Haifa on Monday.
The terrorist who was killed at the scene was identified as a 20-year-old Druze resident of the northern Arab city of Shfar’am, who is also a German national. He recently returned to Israel after living abroad.
The attack, which lasted seven minutes before the terrorist was shot, occurred at a central bus terminal in the city during the busy morning hours amid increased security alert during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan
According to initial reports, in addition to the terrorist, another person was shot and is suffering serious injuries. His identity is being investigated to determine whether he was also involved in the attack or was shot by mistake.
All of the injured were evacuated to a local hospital.
Police closed roads leading to the site of the attack and asked that people avoid the area to allow emergency teams and the security forces to respond to the events.
Police Commissioner Danny Levi, who arrived at the scene, said the identity of the terrorist was not yet known and an investigation was underway. “We’ve set up road blocks and are working to ensure that the terrorist was not assisted by anyone else.” He said the terrorist was shot by a civilian security guard who was working in collaboration with the police.
