A 3-year-old water buffalo from Thailand has officially earned the title of the tallest water buffalo in the world. Standing 6 feet 8 inches tall from hoof to withers, King Kong, who lives at Ninlanee Farm in Nakhon Ratchasima, is about 20 inches taller than the average adult water buffalo, according to Guinness World Records.
Record-Breaking Size Since Birth
King Kong’s impressive height was evident from the moment he was born on April 1, 2021. Farm owner Suchart Booncharoen quickly noticed the buffalo’s extraordinary size, which led to him naming the animal after the giant movie monster, King Kong. Cherpatt Wutti, a farm worker at Ninlanee Farm, recalled, “We began to realise that his height was very high from when he was born, compared to other water buffalo. It was clear from early on that his height was extraordinary. He is only three years old, but despite his young age, he’s still very massive.”
Gentle Giant on the Farm
Despite his enormous size, King Kong is not aggressive. Instead, he has a playful and gentle nature, which has earned him the nickname of a “big softy.” “He is very obedient. He loves to play around; he loves to be scratched and run around with people. He is really friendly, and it’s like having a big, powerful puppy on the farm,” said Cherpatt.
King Kong was born and raised at Ninlanee Farm, where his parents still live along with many other water buffalo and horses. Despite his remarkable size, King Kong enjoys simple pleasures, such as splashing in the pond and munching on bananas.
