If Tatiana Maslany Channels Orphan Black’s Best Clone in New Role, Will She Finally Appeal to a Broader Fan Base Again?

If Tatiana Maslany Channels Orphan Black’s Best Clone in New Role, Will She Finally Appeal to a Broader Fan Base Again?

Like everyone in the universe, I love Tatiana Maslany.

She’s a tour de force performer, and no one else could have achieved what she did in Orphan Black.

The woman played over a dozen different characters to such dizzying degrees of specificity that one easily felt they were watching others in each of these roles.

The Maslany Effect is REAL

The Maslany Effect is real. Despite a career that dates back to the ’90s, Orphan Black served as her breakout role, putting her on the map and fostering a legion of fans forever devoted to this woman and her talents.

It’s well-deserved. Ironically, genre series haven’t achieved what Orphan Black has done since then. The series became quite the phenomenon for boldly sticking to its twisty form of sci-fi and genre while still having cross-genre appeal.

She scored so many nominations for many awards because of her fantastic performance as Sarah Manning and her cohort of clones. In 2016, in a well-deserved shocker, she even won that coveted Emmy we were campaigning for her to score.

Maslany’s immeasurable talent is uncontainable, as many have called her a current or modern rendition of any number of powerhouse, versatile, acclaimed actresses, from Meryl Streep to Claire Danes.

What’s evident from her array of work, however, is that Maslany is purely in it for the love of the game. She shows little interest in pursuing projects that will thrust her into the spotlight just for the sake of it.

She’s all about choices that resonate with her. As a result, her career has been one of the most puzzling, coming off the hit Orphan Black for many viewers who cannot process these choices.

Maslany is a multi-talent, whether it’s podcasts and audiobooks, stageplays, genre shows, and films, including the quirky but polarizing She-Hulk and a litany of horror movies, such as The Monkey.

Unsurprisingly, she garners high praise in everything she does, whether her projects are everyone’s cup of tea or not.

But if you’re a fan of hers who doesn’t quite indulge in some of the slow-burners or genre programming she’s taking on over the years, it’s likely been a rough journey rooting for this woman from afar despite not indulging in some of her offerings.

Tatiana Maslany Is In It For the Love of the Game

And hell, doesn’t it make you love her even more?

Again, she’s a true thespian in it for the love of the game, and in an age of social media influencers attempting to skyrocket to fame by any means necessary or actors merely phoning it in for the paycheck, Tatiana Maslany is a rare gem.

But that’s why her upcoming project with Apple TV+ may be the perfect happy medium for many fans who have adored this woman since Orphan Black but haven’t always jived with many of her projects since then.

Regarding streamers, no one scores the greatest of our time quite like Apple TV+. The streamer has some of the best (albeit rarely promoted) series out there.

They always have landed some of the greatest leads of our time, a star-studded cast that makes our jaws drop as we don’t realize some of these affluent people on the big screen would even entertain the small one.

Apple TV+ is the place for series that are in it for the art and storytelling. So be it if they resonate with viewers and become hits like Severance, Slow Horses, and The Morning Show.

Maslany’s Union with Apple TV+ Is a Match Made in Heaven

That’s why, for someone like Maslany, it’s the perfect streamer.

It could align with her interest and approach to taking on roles while also delivering on what may be one of the best series we won’t necessarily hear about but still discover anyway.

Apple TV+ has greenlit a new dark, comedic thriller, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, starring none other than our girl Tatiana Maslany.

For the lead alone, they have me locked into.

Citadel’s David J. Rosen will serve as showrunner of a series described as a dark, comedic thriller.

Maslany will star as a newly divorced mother who falls down a dangerous rabbit hole of blackmail, murder, and youth soccer.

It’s giving Lifetime thriller-vibes, but those are severely underrated, entertaining content.

However, it’s also the perfect tease for Orphan Black fans obsessed with Maslany’s portrayal of a suburban housewife turned drug dealer, Alison Hendrix.

On paper, Alison should never have been one of Orphan Black’s most entertaining clones. I mean, we had the badass, bobbed Rachel wreaking absolute havoc and the preciously unhinged Ukrainian sestra, Helena, keeping everyone on their toes.

But Alison was not one to sleep on; she had her hands in some of everything and emerged as a true powerhouse and unlikely favorite out of the brood.

She was inarguably one of Orphan Black’s greatest characters, and given that they produced so many of them donning Maslany’s face, that speaks volumes.

Could we be expecting a repeat performance or at least one of a similar caliber as Maslany takes on this new role?

For many fans who have loved Maslany’s work on Orphan Black, this specific role may be comfort food, not to mention a rousing ride of thrills, as the series promises to take up the suburban soccer mom trope and deliver something appealing and darkly fun.

Might Maslany have landed a role that appeals to her more mainstream fanbase with Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed?

It’s possible. I know they have my attention with this one.

It combines dark thrills and Maslany flexing her comedic chops, so sign me up.
