A man described by detectives as a "sexual predator" has been jailed for eight months for attacking a woman on a train.

Hawre Mohamed, 27, from Horley in Surrey, carried out the attack on the 20-year-old after following her onto a train at the town's railway station.

He was arrested several days later when police officers spotted him at East Croydon station.

He was sentenced at Croydon Magistrates Court on Monday, where he was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

British Transport Police (BTP) said Mohamed approached the woman at about 20:20 BST on 22 September to ask how to get through the ticket barrier.

He then followed her into the carriage and sitting beside her, despite there being plenty of free seats, BPT said.

He continued to try to talk to her, before touching her and trying to kiss her, also asking how old she was, saying he "doesn't go for below 18".

The woman got off the train at Redhill and contacted the police.

He was arrested in Croydon when officers spotted him wearing the same jacket he had on during the attack.

Det Con Geraldine Devaney said: "Mohamed is a sexual predator who preyed on a woman travelling alone and wouldn't take no for an answer. His behaviour that day was simply vile.

"Thanks to the courage and support of the victim, we have been able to put him before the courts and behind bars."
