Since Fire Country began in 2022, Bode and Gabriela’s will they/won’t they has been a cornerstone of the show.
Their ill-fated romance began in Season 1 when Bode ran into Gabriela, and sparks flew. However, she was dating Jake, Bode’s (childhood) best friend.
This love triangle made for some good drama as Bode’s arrival in Edgewater shook up every other character’s life.
For three seasons, the relationship hit several highs and lows, with the show never quite taking a stance on where they stand.
Fire Country Season 3 seems appropriate to address this, and the writers seem to have accepted that the arc has run its course and should end permanently.
Breaking Bode and Gabriela Up Pushes Fire Country Forward
Two distinct moments in the show’s short run have stuck out.
The first was in the first season’s cliffhanger, in which, instead of getting Bode out of Three Rock so that he and Gabriela could pursue this relationship, Bode tanked his parole hearing and was sent back.
When we reviewed the Season 1 finale, it felt like the show had gone to square one.
Bode’s decision wrecked the little trust that had developed between them. Gabriela felt like she would keep waiting forever for someone hellbent on ruining everything good he had going on.
The second moment was the Season 3 premiere, in which Bode didn’t stop her wedding but eventually ruined Gabriela’s relationship with Diego.
In this instance, Gabriela shouldered some blame because that girl has a lot of trauma, and she only deals with it by blowing up her life.
It became a never-ending cycle of building themselves up so that they could put a wrecking ball to it. It was getting old fast.
Their interactions could be summed up in two lines: “I love and want to spend the rest of my life with you” and “Why the hell did we do that; it was a mistake.”
Every show needs to move forward; it can’t keep rebooting the initial pitch. If not, it’s okay to accept that it has peaked, and the network can cancel.
The breakup is good for the characters since it allows them to explore other interests, and whatever’s good for them is good for the show.
Bode and Audrey Are an Interesting Prospect
While Bode and Audrey’s relationship is in its infancy, it has the potential to be the best thing that ever happened.
Apart from Sharon and Vince, no two Fire Country characters are better suited to be a great couple than Bode and Audrey.
They don’t have common baggage, which was a dealbreaker with Bode and Gabriela. Their relationships were too entangled to allow them to explore anything meaningful.
A common reason why romantic relationships fail is when preexisting ones interfere.
Audrey is essentially a stranger, offering an opportunity to develop an entirely new world surrounding her.
While she does like Bode, she doesn’t bow to his every desire and might be instrumental in fixing his misplaced bravado, which irks everyone else’s soul, including this writer.
Gabriela Deserves to Be Happy.
Have you seen the glow on Gabriela Perez recently?
She made a lot of progress in Fire Country Season 3 Episode 10. Not has she moved on from all them men in her life who make it unbearable, she doesn’t let the past drag her down any longer.
Was Manny absent during her childhood after incarceration? Yes. Did she cheat on Jake? Did she do something dumb with Bode? Yes, on both. But does she let these questions dictate her life? No!
This new Gabriela is refreshing to watch; injecting Bode back into her life would ruin it.
Sometimes, growth happens best when there is good spacing. Bode and Gabriela could use a lot of it from each other.
Over to you, Fire Country Fanatics. Do you think Bode and Gabriela have run their course? What are your thoughts on Audrey and Bode?
