“Where is the money coming from, Leo?!” Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for another boring crime thriller called Mob Cops, arriving on VOD starting in April this spring. These kind of generic “bad guys are kinda cool” movies really are a dime a dozen nowadays in the streaming / VOD era. From director Danny A. Abeckaser, Mob Cops is based on true events in mobster crime lore: When the two dirtiest cops in NYPD history pop up on a veteran detective’s radar, he goes on a hunt to discover the truth and bring all them to justice. It’s set across the 80s and 90s, leading up to the year 2005. The full ensemble cast features David Arquette, Jeremy Luke, Danny A. Abeckaser, Joseph Russo, Nathaniel Buzolic, Kyle Stefanski, Bo Dietl, Graham Sibley, and Kevin Connolly. Abeckaser adds: “I’ve always been fascinated with dirty cop stories, and this one is the biggest in the history of the NYPD – so I was extremely intrigued to turn this into a film.” Maybe it’s a good story, but will it be a good film? Probably not. All of the footage looks terrible.

Kevin Connolly, David Arquette, and Jeremy Luke star in a thrilling crime drama titled Mob Cops about the darkest corruption case in the history of the New York City Police Department. When a retired NYPD detective writes a book about his family’s ties to the mob, it ignites a firestorm between all of the dirty cops still working for the city’s brutal crime boss and the many officers trying to bring them to justice. Mob Cops is directed by Israeli-American actor / producer / filmmaker Danny A. Abeckaser, also director of the films First We Take Brooklyn, Mob Town, Blackjack: The Jackie Ryan Story, I Love Us, Inside Man, The Engineer, and Bardejov previously. The screenplay is from Kosta Kondilopoulous. Produced by Gustavo Nascimento, Kyle Stefanski, and Danny A. Abeckaser. Lionsgate will debut Abeckaser’s Mob Cops movie in select US theaters + on VOD starting April 25th, 2025 this spring. Anyone into it? Who wants to watch?
