You didn’t think Found would take its foot off the gas in the new year, did you?
Foolish of you if you believed Found Season 2 Episode 9 would ease us back into the myriad of drama and thrills in the world of Gabi Mosely and associates.
The hour dropped so many things at once that it practically left our heads spinning, with M&A’s most faithful soldier fighting for his life, Trent’s fate a shocking unknown, and more questions than answers about Sir.
Where do we even begin with this action-packed hour?
Picking up where Found Season 2 Episode 8 left off, Gabi squared off with Sir in a tense confrontation that ended with some mysterious person clocking Gabi over the head.
Sir didn’t anticipate Gabi’s presence at the school and was holding out for Heavy Boots. But their reunion wasn’t the most shocking part about that interaction.
Sir is always the preening narcissist who believes he’s the smartest and scariest person in the room. However, there is someone whom he’s working with that he’s deathly afraid of, and the prospect of that is as intriguing as it is terrifying.
If Sir is under someone else’s thumb, why is that and how did they get him in the first place? He was genuinely worried about Gabi and what the person there would do to her, and they sneaked up behind her and knocked her out.
It’s not the first time it was clear that someone was working alongside Sir during his many run-ins, but now we have to wonder who that person is.
It’s easy to assume that the newest person we’ve met is possibly responsible. After all, could it really be Christian? It seems too obvious for that to be the case by now. And Christian is more afraid of Sir, not vice versa.
And enters Heather Tollins, the sexy yet mysterious criminal defense attorney who turns Trent’s head and warms his bed.
When we spoke with the incredibly sweet and insightful Danielle Savre about her new role, she teased a lot of mystery. She also didn’t confirm nor deny many of the theories already percolating about her connection to Sir.
Did Heather target Trent, and does she have some ulterior motives?
God bless him; he would be an easy enough guy to go after, especially since he’s been licking his wounds over Gabi falling off that pedestal he placed her upon.
Heather’s line of work is interesting, as she’s a criminal defense attorney, but she’s also proven to be a quick study when it comes to reading people, at least from the little (pun included) of what we have seen of her so far.
Naturally, whether it’s work or play, we’ll likely see her around more and crossing paths with Trent often, but maybe Mosely and associates, too.
She seems like a powerful but unassuming woman, and we know the newer characters are typically the most suspicious, so could she be working with Sir in some capacity?
So many of the key figures in his life shrouded in uncertainty and mystery have been women, whether it was the real stories behind the other girl he supposedly took before Gabi or his sister.
The timeline was intentionally murky, too.
Did Gabi meet with Sir at night and then get knocked out and wake up the next morning, or did that happen in the morning somehow, and maybe Heather stopped there rather than heading to the courthouse (braless, mind you, bold choice, woman) for work?
We know Heather will share the screen with many of the characters.
Therefore, the likelihood that she could be working with Sir feels strong, and my enthusiasm over this notion and simply having Danielle Savre on my screen again since Station 19‘s frustrating cancelation is through the roof.
Sir was armed with information about serial missing children years ago linked to Trent’s father, and he confirmed that he knew what happened to Margaret’s son and was willing to give up that information for Gabi’s safety.
I know what happened to Margaret’s son. Walk out now, and I will tell you.
— Sir
He also reiterated that his sole purpose these days is to help ensure Gabi’s team is functional and happy without her because he knows she can’t leave with him unless she knows they’re all good.
Sir is strangely earnest about all of this.
Ironically, it makes him feel like less of an imminent threat than whoever he’s working with, and that’s a shocking turn of events since Found Season 2 Episode 1, where we learned he intended to poison all of those close to Gabi and took Lacey.
No one ever accused sociopaths of making a bunch of sense, though, right?
The bombshell about Trent’s father is huge, and now it tosses another major mystery into the mix about this seemingly shady cop most of us didn’t get the best vibes from in the first place.
Trent seems in denial about it.
However, once it sinks in, he’ll probably come to realize that his father is capable of some of anything, and sadly, covering up the disappearances of multiple children back in the day, including young Lawrence Johnson, is part of it.
He’s the one child that Sir keeps fixating on, so he may be the one they actually find before the season concludes.
Nevertheless, this news may have contributed to the chasm already between Trent and Gabi.
We left with that cliffhanger of a gun going off, but it’s doubtful Trent got shot, especially since that honor went to my precious Dhan. But we’ll get into that.
Trent volleyed back and forth between being annoying and his old self. He was terrified when he found Gabi, but then he didn’t hesitate to haul her in and throw more empty threats at her.
However, he also returned Zeke’s tech, likely understanding that it’s the best way to keep Gabi and her brood safe. He may actually heed Sir’s advice and drop the case against Gabi. But he also may use this as more “proof” that Gabi is somehow in cahoots with her tormentor.
Trent was in a challenging position with Ian because he needed to protect this man, but telling Gabi the truth would’ve been less of a headache and risk.
Ian’s case felt more like one that moved the plot along and provided great character moments and exploration for everyone we loved.
Dhan still struggles to keep his judgment of substance abusers under control, but he and his understanding have evolved. It made him a great asset for the case.
He identified with Ian a lot in wanting to be a good man for his spouse and do right by that person, and that’s what seemed to touch him most about this case.
Dhan also did well in the press conference. He did not bother to ditch his usual attire, kept it real with everyone, and was honest about how he knew how they might feel about addicts, too.
His most poignant line was asserting that even addicts deserve love and to be found.
Ian doesn’t even have to be perfect or even sober to be loved or to be found. None of us do.
— Dhan
The case had him reflecting on his fractured relationship with Ethan, and despite Ethan moving out of the apartment and finding his own place, it seemed like they were making some progress.
Unfortunately, I don’t know if Ethan can ever be content until Dhan gives up Gabi and the firm, which remains one of my biggest beef with this character.
Ethan made sacrifices in his career because he essentially fell in love with a patient, changing the trajectory of everything for him. However, love was his reward after risking his job.
And that’s fine if he wanted to do that, but he seems to expect Dhan to do the same thing, which is unfair and reeks of resentment, and that’s one of many things about Ethan that doesn’t sit well with me.
His laser focus on Gabi and his blaming her for everything wrong in his and Dhan’s lives is surreal and bordering on unhinged for a professional.
Ethan seems to resent Gabi for being Dhan’s “person” and for the two having such a profoundly deep, multilayered, unshakeable bond that outsiders may not understand.
Ethan copped a whole attitude when Dhan said they caught a new case. It’s easy for him to blame and hide behind Gabi right now, but if she did go away and Lacey, Margaret, or hell, even Dhan took over, would Ethan still have an issue?
My heart and my jaw dropped in the aftermath of the courthouse shooting when we realized that it was Dhan who got hit. I’ve made it known that he’s my favorite character and one of the most intriguing, and I adore the Gabi/Dhan dynamic.
It may be touch and go, but Dhan’s a fighter, so I have faith he’ll be okay. I can’t envision this series losing him, as he’s M&A’s most faithful and their protector.
I am curious to see how they all rally behind him and support him after this. But it’s worrying that Ethan used that tragic and shocking moment to lash out at Gabi and send her away.
A pet peeve of mine is when someone’s spouse enters the picture with this expectation that they should be someone’s everything and takes issues with all the important people and valuable relationships that predate their existence in a person’s life.
Ethan’s statement that Gabi has been “in the way” of their entire relationship was irritating and immature.
What I really need right now is space and time away from you. I have had to share him with you every moment of our relationship and if this is our last one, then please, let me have this one.
— Ethan
Dhan and Gabi’s bond preceded Dhan and Ethan’s marriage; maybe Ethan should’ve spent more time trying to understand and work within the frame of who and what Gabi represents to Dhan rather than trying to shut it down.
Gabi and Dhan are definitely codependent, and Dhan remains a mystery.
However, we know Gabi essentially “saved” him. And for Gabi, Dhan is the one person she can be vulnerable around, sometimes more so than with Lacey.
It does no one any good attempting to dissect that bond or interfere. They seem crucial to each other’s healing and stability.
It’s not lost that Dhan’s shooting and not being able to be with him had Gabi on the verge of drinking hard booze and may have been the final thing that caused her to have a mental breakdown.
They’re as much family to one another as Gabi is with Lacey. And it’ll be interesting to see how Gabi moves forward after possibly losing her “person.”
Meanwhile, if there’s ever a question of who the beaming light and future of M&A is, it’s Lacey, and it has been her season. Gabrielle Walsh is phenomenal.
Lacey is the glue that keeps everyone together.
We saw that in so many little ways throughout this hour. She was fantastic with Eileen, giving Dhan all of his props and due, encouraging him, and getting him to step outside his comfort zone.
I’m not Gabi Mosely, but I promise you, we care, and we’ll find Ian.
— Lacey
Her antics to cheer up Zeke were as hilarious and adorable as her determination to hack on his behalf as a loophole. And she was a tiny ball of righteousness and badassery when she charged into that interrogation room and called out Trent for coming after Gabi.
It’s good to hear that she’s headed back to school because it’s the most passionate that she has been in a while. Lacey is such a great character, and the best aspect of the season is getting glimpses into her background via the flashbacks.
Jasmine Washington is such a talented young lady. I’m routinely impressed with how much she can do with a challenging, nonverbal role.
Bella’s fear is always palpable, and it’s refreshing that they recognize that one’s healing journey is slow and that there aren’t any quick fixes. It has been months since Bella and Gabi escaped, but she’s still struggling.
I loved that we met her father for the first time, and it was heartbreaking that her fear of men left him taking longer trucking assignments to give Bella the space she needed.
You could tell with every ounce in him that he wanted nothing more than to connect with his baby girl again, and it was killing him, not only that she was in so much pain, but that he triggered her so much.
By the final flashback, Bella handing him the picture she made, apologizing, and saying she’d miss him, had me in all the feelings I pretend I don’t have.
The flashbacks remain an illuminating aspect of this series, especially this season.
Over to you, Found Fanatics.
