“I think each person needs to follow their own unique path. Otherwise, you’ll just be wondering ‘what if?'” Quiver has debuted the trailer for an indie dramedy film titled The Comic Shop, directed by Jonathan L. Bowen. This feel-good film is being released direct-to-VOD in April this spring. It’s the story of a guy who runs a comic book shop but who actually dreams of having his own real job as a comic book artist. There’s a couple of scenes set at the San Diego Comic-Con, as well as in the little comic shop he owns in Vegas. Mike D’Angelo, a former comic book artist turned owner of a struggling shop located in a strip mall in Las Vegas, faces a tough reality after the pandemic hits. Forced to reinvent his business & also part ways with his best friend, Alex, Mike thinks his creative dreams are over. But when they meet Brandon, the three of them come together to rebuild their lives and chase their passions. Starring Jesse Metcalfe, Tristan Mays, Micah Giovanni, Trevor Einhorn, with Eric Roberts as his landlord. This looks uplifting & mildly enjoyable.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Jonathan L. Bowen’s film The Comic Shop, direct from YouTube:
Mike D’Angelo (Jesse Metcalfe) owns a small comic shop in a Las Vegas strip mall. Though he finished art school and briefly worked as a comic book illustrator, Mike had to resort to what his parents call “Plan B,” building his own business. Having to give up most of his creative ambitions and with the pandemic taking a toll on Mike’s World Comics, he’s had to reinvent the store and lay off his best worker & closest friend, Alex (Tristin Mays). Though he thinks his dreams are behind him, he yearns to return to his true passion, art… then they meet Brandon (Micah Giovanni) and together, the three of them save each other, and also work on realizing their dreams… The Comic Shop is directed by American indie filmmaker Jonathan L. Bowen, director of the film Amy Alyson Fans previously, plus many other short films. The screenplay is written by Jonathan L. Bowen and Scott Reed. It’s produced by Cynthia Huffman, Dan Katzman, Scott Reed, Ron Singer. This hasn’t premiered at any film festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Quiver will release Bowen’s The Comic Shop direct-to-VOD in the US starting April 11th, 2025. Looks good? Want to watch?
