DRENTHE, Netherlands (WKRC) – Police said they are searching for suspects who used explosives to break into a history museum in the middle of the night and steal multiple golden artifacts.
The Drents Museum announced on Saturday that multiple historical artifacts were stolen after thieves used explosives to break into the museum’s “Dacia – Empire of Gold and Silver” exhibit at around 3:45 a.m. Specifically, three Dacian royal bracelets and the golden Cotofenesti helmet were stolen.
“We are intensely shocked by the events last night at the museum,” said the Drents Museum’s general director, Harry Tupan. “In its 170-year existence, there has never been such a major incident.”
Luckily nobody was injured in the explosion, but a press release noted that the museum building was damaged.
No other information was released, but the museum emphasized that multiple police and investigation agencies are involved in recovering the pieces and bringing the suspects to justice.
