In Stockton, the legend endures: In July 1995 the Devil himself made an appearance at the infamous nightclub. The Record is collecting memories, stories and photos tied to that legendary night and wants to hear yours.

As a Stockton native, I grew up hearing about the Devil appearing at the Flamingo Club in 1995.

The infamous club, which used to be located at Charter and Wilson Way, was only 2.2 miles away from childhood home.

Anytime my grandmother took me to the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds or we drove past Rancho San Miguel I would hear, “Mira, allí se apareció el diablo.”

Translation: "Look, that’s where the devil appeared."

In the city of Stockton, many believe that in July 1995 the Devil himself made an appearance at the nightclub.

At the time, The Record compiled people's testimonies as to what happened.

Rumor has it that on or about Father’s Day a charismatic man who was covered in gold jewelry entered the club. Everyone's eyes were on the man as he asked a young woman to dance.

As the woman and the man danced, she glanced down and allegedly saw that the man's feet were not touching the floor.

When she screamed the establishments lights turned off and when they finally came back on the woman was covered with blood and “viciously cut” somehow.

Responding officers handcuffed the man, locked him in the back of a patrol car and began questioning witnesses.

When police went back to check on their detained suspect he was gone.

Only the handcuffs remained.

What was the moral of this story in my household? Don’t go to nightclubs or you just might dance with the devil.

Literally.
