Wild animals typically ignore motion-sensor trail cameras, but sometimes they react to the devices.

The accompanying footage, captured in late October and shared Saturday, shows a grizzly bear wildly confronting a trail camera in Canada’s Yukon Territory.

David Troup of Yukon Wildlife Cams stated via Facebook: “I'll be honest, I'm not sure what is going on here for the most part. I've never seen similar behavior from a grizzly.”

Troup explained that viewers can hear Velcro separating as the bear removes the camera’s rain cover.

“It then paws several times at the camera but my method of connecting cams to trees proves superior,” Troup continued. “It then picks up the rain cover and appears to 'play' with it before lumbering into the night.” (Click here if video player doesn't appear below.)

One follower suggested: “Maybe the camera is emitting some sort of ultrasonic or clicking sound that is disturbing him?”

Regarding the bear’s head shake, a follower theorized: “I feel like he didn’t like the feel of the Velcro on his mouth. I have seen cats react like this to Velcro when trying to bite it.”

In 2002, one of Troup’s cameras captured footage showing a coyote’s "animated response" to a camera attached to a tree.

Troup stated that coyotes “are known for being wary of trail cameras” and responded generally to animals that react to trail cameras: “Inevitably wildlife can detect peculiarities in their environment, whether it’s by sight, sound or smell.”

The coyote footage was reminiscent of footage shared by a researcher in 2023, showing wolves reacting to a trail camera in Yellowstone National Park.
