King, who recently announced a partnership with Silk Protein, admits that "it's silly to have goals" during the hectic holiday season, but still shares her best tips for getting in daily movement
Jess King knows it can be hard to juggle the holidays with health and fitness.
The Peloton instructor, influencer and mother admits to PEOPLE that “it’s silly to have goals" other than to "survive and stay healthy" during the hectic holiday season — but she still tries to get in some sort of movement, nonetheless.
“The holiday season is chaotic, but it's not unlike most seasons of my life," she shares. "Balance for me really comes with consistent movement practice, taking care of my body, and doing all of the things from sleep to spiritual hygiene, and trying to stay grounded as much as possible.”

Outside of teaching cycling, the 40-year-old gets movement anywhere she can. While waiting for her morning coffee to brew, she'll do a split stance lunge, and throughout the day, she tries to get in a few reps of pushups.

Jess King“Simple movements throughout my day that really, over time, add up," she says. "If I'm going up and down the stairs and I do a leg extension behind me every other step and squeeze my butt by the end of the day, I've done 100 of those. It's being creative where I can.”
King adds that it doesn't take "a 45-minute workout commitment" to get the job done.
"You don't need to put on your workout clothes to get it done. Use the time and space you have while you're waiting for water to boil, while you're waiting for somebody to get into the car, you could do 20 air squats," she adds. "Add little movement practices and little sets in and they really go a long way. Pay a lot of attention to what you put into your body. It's feeding the way that you feel.”

The holiday season is busy for King as she balances teaching classes, helping others reach their goals and being present with her family.
While her fitness plans may look a bit different in December, she notes that her main "goal" is to have "meaningful connection and time with my kids."
“I'm refocusing my goals to be centered around the holidays and having that be what I'm working towards and having everything in my life support that," she shares.
King shares two children — son Lucien “Luz” Urista King and daughter Afiza Maria Urista King — with her wife, Sophia Urista. Life with them, she says, is “so unpredictable every single day.”

“We're trying to instill traditions. I wanted them to help me decorate the tree, but that lasted for two seconds," she says. "They're still so young. Our oldest is 3 and our daughter is 2 ½."
"The traditions that we've been instilling are mostly morning rituals, like having something for them to be excited to wake up to," she continues. "We painted the bottoms of their feet, and they got to stomp around on some brown paper on the floor.”
As a fitness instructor, King is accustomed to motivating those who take her classes; however, knowing when to pull back is just as important as knowing when to push forward. She notes that the same mindset can be used around the holidays, a time when people are often hesitant to say no or set boundaries.
“People are afraid to say no, but it's okay. Say no. When you do say no, say, ‘I'm not going to make it, but thank you so much for including me,’ and then end on what you're grateful for, end on the connection," King says. "There is a definite finesse to how we maintain our boundaries that are ultimately there so that we can stay on the path towards whatever goal that might be. You're the one living your life. Stay focused on yourself."

Jess KingAs much as she shares over the microphone when she’s teaching a class, she also knows the importance of keeping some things private for her family. Although she and Urista have shared their children online in the past, King says they are "very mindful" about "protecting" their kids.

"I've always been someone who is open, and there's nothing that I hide intentionally," she says. "I definitely take the responsibility of having a platform seriously."
Given her platform of over half a million followers, King says that, when she partners with different companies, "it's very real and true brands that I work with, and I've done my due diligence.”

Jess King and Silk Protein“It's when I deeply believe in something and believe in the brands that I work with, and our values align, that I'm very excited to share with my audience in hopes that they'll be able to experience the same type of satisfaction," she shares. "It can change your life in a certain way, like adding protein.”

Despite the exhausting nature of the holidays, King says that adding Silk Protein — a dairy-free, plant-based protein innovation — into her morning routine has given her extra pep in her step.
“Adding protein to my coffee in the morning has changed the way that I feel for the first part of my day, and that's significant because feeling better allowed me to be able to regulate my nervous system," she says. "Parents out there all know that, and everyone, truly, that's the goal. You want to be healthy [and have] a healthy nervous system.”
Although King’s life has evolved over the years, using a product that both she and her family enjoy ensures that everyone gets the protein and energy they need to get through the day — no matter the season.
