Central Florida is set for a warm and dry weekend with temperatures approaching 80 on Saturday, but a cold front is brewing for the region’s future early in the week, according to the National Weather Service.

“Persistent weather pattern continues through the weekend as weak high pressure lies across the region promoting mainly dry conditions and above seasonal temperatures,” the NWS Melbourne forecaster’s discussion reads.

Highs in the upper 70s are expected with some areas hitting 80 on Saturday and Sunday while morning and evening fog development could be a hazard especially along the I-4 corridor.

Overnight lows will continue to drop into the mid 50s.

“A strong cold front is forecast to move southward across the peninsula early next week, bringing below normal temperatures areawide into the New Year,” the NWS stated.

An upper level trough is poised to push the front across Central Florida on Monday overnight into early Tuesday setting up a second frontal passage late in the week.

“The latest guidance continues to trend ‘cold’ behind this early-week boundary. Below normal temperatures are expected areawide Tuesday continuing through the end of the period,” the NWS stated.

So the upper 70s and low 80s on Monday will drop 10-15 degrees on Tuesday into the 60s and low 70s while some areas of Lake and north Volusia counties may not reach 60 degrees on Tuesday.

Highs in the 60s will continue areawide from Wednesday through Saturday, although some areas south of I-4 could climb back into the 70s by next weekend.

The lows will be in the 50s on Monday but drop into the upper 40s for north and west of I-4.

Tuesday night’s lows will likely be the coldest of the week and would be in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees west of I-95, although the mid-30s could be seen in portions of Lake and north Volusia counties.

Wind chill effects overnight Tuesday into Wednesday with 10 mph winds could mean feels-like temperatures in the low to mid 30s across the interior region of Central Florida.

Winds through Friday won’t be as harsh, although could still produce feels-like temperatures in the upper 30s and lower 40s for metro Orlando.

So New Year’s Eve on Thursday night should prompt some warm clothing for those who venture outdoors.
