Bayern Munich eased past Werder Bremen 3-0 on Friday with two goals from Harry Kane for their seventh league win in succession, to move nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
The Bavarians, who face Celtic in their Champions League playoff first leg next week for a spot in the round of 16, had their best chance of the first half through Kane but his stoppage-time header narrowly missed the target.
The league’s leading scorer got even closer 25 seconds after the restart, rattling the crossbar with a powerful shot but it was third time lucky for him in the 56th minute when he converted a penalty.
Dayot Upamecano thought he had headed in their second goal minutes later but the Werder goalkeeper, Michael Zetterer, spectacularly palmed his point-blank effort wide.
Leroy Sané did it better in the 83rd minute, tapping in a Konrad Laimer cutback to put the game to bed before Zetterer stopped efforts from Kane and Laimer late in the game to keep the scoreline low.
He was beaten, however, for a second time from the spot with Kane’s stoppage-time penalty for his 21st league goal.
Bayern are on 54 points, nine ahead of the champions, Bayer Leverkusen, in second place, who are in action on Saturday at Wolfsburg.
Randal Kolo Muani converted an 89th-minute penalty to earn Juventus a 2-1 win away to Como on Friday, with the French forward scoring both goals for the visitors, his fifth goal in his first three Serie A games.
Kolo Muani, recently arrived from Paris Saint-Germain on loan, put Juventus ahead against the run of play in the 34th minute before the hosts deservedly levelled on the stroke of half-time through Assane Diao.
The game looked headed for a draw after a second half which provided little in the way of entertainment, until a foul by the Como goal keeper, Jean Butez, gave Juventus the late penalty which Kolo Muani slotted home.
The win took Juventus to fourth in the standings on 43 points, one ahead of Fiorentina, who play Inter on Monday, and Lazio who take on Monza on Sunday. Como remain 15th on 22 points.
In La Liga, Rayo Vallecano continued their impressive recent form with a 1-0 victory against Real Valladolid. Álvaro García’s second-half winner made it nine unbeaten in the league for sixth-placed Rayo, who are aiming to qualify for Europe for the first time in 25 years.
