“We can do it together.” Break Out Pictures has unveiled their official UK trailer for an indie comedy called Four Mothers, opening in the UK + Ireland this April. This “funny and heartwarming comedy drama” first premiered at the 2024 London Film Festival last year where it won the Audience Award at the end of the fest. The tender dramedy film follows a struggling novelist who is forced to take care of three eccentric older women – and his own mother – over the course of a chaotic weekend in Dublin, Ireland. Edward is a queer, up-and-coming novelist forced to balance press commitments with caring for his aging mother. Pressure to go on a US book tour is mounting. But when his three closest friends, desperate to feel young and carefree again, go off on an impromptu Pride holiday, they leave their ageing mothers in Edward’s care. This indie stars James McArdle with Fionnula Flanagan, Dearbhla Molloy, Stella McCusker, Paddy Glynn, Gaetan Garcia, and Niamh Cusack. This really does look sweet, and charming, and uplifting, spending time with some moms who will try to help fix him up. Ha… This seems like it’s worth a watch! Have a look.
Here’s the official trailer (+ UK poster) for Darren Thornton’s film Four Mothers, direct from YouTube:
Four Mothers tells the story of Edward (James McArdle), a novelist saddled with caring for his elderly mother (Fionnula Flanagan) who finally finds himself on the brink of literary success. Busy with the demands of his upcoming book tour, the last thing Edward needs is his friends leaving their mothers on his doorstep as they head off on an impromptu Pride holiday! Over a chaotic weekend, Edward has to juggle his burgeoning career with the care of four eccentric, combative, and wildly different ladies. Four Mothers is a tender and heartwarming comedy that is set to delight cinema audiences. Four Mothers is directed by Irish filmmaker Darren Thornton, making his second feature film after directing A Date for Mad Mary, and a few other short films previously. The screenplay is written by Colin Thornton and Darren Thornton. Produced by Eric Abraham, Martina Niland, Jack Sidey. This initially premiered at the 2024 London Film Festival last year, where it won the festival’s main Audience Award. Break Out Pictures opens Thornton’s Four Mothers in UK cinemas starting April 4th, 2025. No US release date is set – stay tuned. Look good?
