Horrifying moment ‘mermaid’ is attacked by giant fish in aquarium – World News – News

Disturbing footage captures the moment a woman swimming in an aquarium was attacked by a fish that tried to clamp its jaws around her head.

Onlookers were watching when the mermaid performer, which is a lucrative role, was suddenly ambushed by the massive fish. The fish’s jaws opened wide, encircling the Russian performer’s face but fortunately she managed to break free and swim to the surface.

Witnesses screamed in terror as the woman struggled, though she quickly managed to escape the fish’s grasp. However, the giant creature did consume 22 year old performer Masha’s goggles and nose clips and inflicted injuries to her head, neck, and eye, according to reports.

The incident took place in Xishuangbanna, China, where the Russian woman is employed. Russian media reports claim that despite suffering from a painful neck wound, the woman was forced back into the aquarium.

She was offered approximately £78 in “moral damages” following the attack but was prohibited from discussing it as her employers at Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park attempted to “cover up” the incident. The freshwater aquarium features native species from the Mekong and Yangtze Rivers, as well as other rare amphibians, although the type of fish responsible for the attack remains unspecified.

In a similar incident in March last year, 15 people were injured when piranhas attacked them while they bathed in a river in Brazil, prompting firefighters to transport at least four individuals to the local hospital, with the others able to seek medical attention independently on the same day.

The victims were bitten on their feet by the sharp-toothed fish while they were cooling off in the Tiete River at Por-do-Sol Beach in Pereira Barreto.

A photo reveals a severe bite wound on one victim’s sole, with blood visibly flowing from the injury.

In response, local authorities dispatched biology experts to the location. They determined that illegal fishing and discarded food had contributed to the mass attacks, which occurred during the spawning season.

Warning signs have been erected by the authorities, advising against swimming at the beach.

According to local experts, the piranhas responsible for the attacks at Por-do-Sol Beach possess a bite force approximately 30 times their body weight. Known for their powerful jaws and finely serrated teeth, piranhas boast one of the strongest bites among bony fishes.
