Matlock Season 1 Episode 13 Takes Things For a Campy Turn with the Introduction of a Comedy Film Icon

Is it me, or do the Matlock writers like to give us one really heavy episode followed by a few light ones? Are we getting emotionally waterboarded? It’s fine with me. I’m just checking.
While “Pregame” didn’t deliver pangs to the heart like “This is That Moment,” it still had every other element that makes the Kathy Bates-led series worth watching.
One thing Matlock has been sneaking in for the last few episodes is at least one eyebrow-raising line from Matty. It’s usually in the beginning before everything gets intense.
This time, Madeline delivered a lovely quote from her friend Cindy Shapiro: “When you got money, you can wallow. Without it, you gotta swallow.”
I will leave that one up to your interpretation as the series did. However, that’s not the quote you want rolling through your noggin’ if you DON’T have money. I’m just saying.
Speaking of that scene and those leading up to it, was anyone else surprised at how well Matty took Edwin’s confession? It looks like long-lasting true love was the lucky winner this time around.
And Matty isn’t the only Jacobson Moore employee getting lucky, either.
The Nicest Guy on Matlock Is Shacking Up with the Personification of Pettiness
While it is way too soon for Billy to jump back into a relationship, it’s always great to see good things happen to genuinely nice characters.
That said, Simone is all wrong for him in every possible way. For one, she’s already a bad influence on David Del Rio‘s character.
Why in the world would Billy agree to hook up in a closet at work? He’s young, but he’s not a teenager, or dumb for that matter.
Billy would never suggest something that could jeopardize his job and career.
Even if it was Billy’s suggestion, there are far worse things about Simone. There’s the fact that she is dripping with “mean girl” energy.
Her pettiness towards Sarah is not sustainable since it’ll only push Mr. Martinez away. Not to mention how hurt Sarah will be just from discovering that her best friend is shacking up with her archnemesis.
Hasn’t Sarah been through enough after Matlock Season 1 Episode 13?
Kira And Sarah’s Split May Have Been a Bummer, But Now It Gives Miss Franklin More Time to Focus on Her Heart’s Real Desire
This is a safe space, so let’s be honest: Who here thought Kira and Sarah’s relationship didn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving?
It’s sad but hardly unexpected. I even questioned Sarah and Kira’s longevity just after they shared their first kiss.
Sure, it sucks, but something pretty great about Sarah’s personality was revealed in all of this. Miss Sarah Franklin is a woman who knows exactly what she wants and has no trouble expressing it.
Most people her age are still figuring out how to set up a doctor’s appointment — speaking from my own past experience.
It’s impressive that Sarah is so emotionally intelligent, and it speaks volumes about her character and why she handled the breakup with Kira so well.
Besides, we all know Sarah’s heart belongs to a new love, much to Olympia’s misfortune.
Although “love” may be the wrong word. Did anyone else catch Sarah’s eye twitch when she was talking to Olympia at the start of Matlock Season 1 Episode 12?
That mentorship is going to give the senior lawyer grey hair. Let’s all send happy thoughts to Miss Lawrence as her plate continues to run over.
The Matlock Writers Have Built Olympia Lawrence Up into the Kind of Character Who Can Handle Whatever Is Thrown at Her, And They Are Making Good on That Investment
At this point, Olympia might need to take stock of her life choices as things, one after another, pile up on her desk.
First, there is the matter of her on-and-off divorce from Julian. Thankfully, they have put away their claws and are back to being supportive.
However, in all the back-and-forth, Olympia missed her chance to be with Elijah, who had already moved on to another woman.
Now, it seems like the ADA might prove to be a thorn in Miss Lawrence’s side.
The only thing is, the man is as skilled at his job as he is ridiculously handsome. I pity any judge who has to rule against that face.
Not to mention, he was the only memorable thing from an episodic case about a copyright-protected knockoff of everyone’s least favorite canned alcoholic beverage.
Let’s be real about the ADA and admit that we think this guy will turn into a possible love interest for Olympia (Skye P. Marshall).
It’s so obvious, but I’m not mad about it because, again, that face. I’m pretty sure he smoldered at some point.
All of this is happening while Olympia is trying to become a partner at the firm, but is that the right move for her? Think about it.
Should she really stay at Jacobson Moore by beating her ex-husband, son of the head honcho at the firm, out for partner? Then there’s the matter of Matty’s mission.
Olympia should make like she’s in a horror movie, use some of her common sense, and head for the front door.
Senior better hope he has contingency plans upon contingency plans. There are only a handful of episodes left of Matlock Season 1.
Matlock Brings in a Camp-Comedy Legend Who Will Undoubtedly Have Audiences Cracking Up
For whatever reason, watching Senior and Matty enjoy a moment of, um, “enhanced relaxation” felt right for the characters. It’ll be a shame when Matlock eventually brings down the firm Senior built.
However, Beau Bridges‘s character might be able to relax for a minute because Matty’s plate was just filled with a healthy heaping of campy humor in the form of her sister, Bitsy.
Considering what a scene-stealer she is, it feels like Julie Hagerty shouldn’t need an introduction.
However, since her resume mostly consists of film roles, it behooves this TV Fanatic to throw a spotlight on this funny lady.
While many might know her as Elaine Dickinson from the Airplane! movies, Julie Hagerty has made her fair share of TV appearances, such as on Happy Endings as Mrs. Kerkovich or on Wilfred as Genevieve.
And even though she tends to always play the same soft-spoken, hilarious character, the method works for her, and it’s a treat every time she busts out that over-eager smile.
So, given Bitsy’s unexpected arrival and the quest to find Alfie’s father, Senior might not have to worry about Matty.
Thanks to that southern hospitality Matty likes to throw around, Bitsy will likely want a tour of Matty’s place of work. Otherwise, Madeline will have to figure out an excuse as to why she’s gone all day.
Regardless of how hilarious that would be, how in the world could Matty possibly make that work without bringing her sister in on the plan?
Either way, whatever the rest of CBS‘s Matlock has in store, there is no doubt that it will be either dramatic, hilarious, or thrilling — but probably all three.
As Senior himself said, “Revenge is the best.”
Who thinks the person behind the Welbrexa cover-up is Julian?
Do you think Olympia should keep pursuing a partner position at Jacobson Moore?
