Schools are to remain closed for a second day on Santorini following the decision by earthquake experts to extend emergency preventative measures on the island, where a spike in seismic activity in recent days has raised concerns about a potentially powerful earthquake.
The experts have called on residents and visitors to the island to remain vigilant and to follow the instructions of local authorities.
In addition to the school closures, experts have urged the public to avoid large gatherings in enclosed spaces and to avoiding visiting and staying in Ammoudi harbor and Santorini Old Habor.
Among dozens of earthquakes, a 4.9-magnitude one was recorded off the coast of Amorgos. A 4.4-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 3.05 p.m., again off the coast of Amorgos. At 3.38 p.m., a new tremor, 3.9 in magnitude, was recorded.
Transport companies have been increasing services to facilitate people who wish to leave the island.
Ferry operator Attica Group said its Kissamos vessel will arrive in Santorini shortly after midnight and will sail to Piraeus.
